One of the main highlights of Scrum is its transparency and accountability. No one can really hide and each participant is equally important as the next. The other thing that makes scrum successful is the incremental development; after each sprint an almost shippable product is demonstrated in front of the stakeholders and the pros and cons are figured right then. One does not have to wait till the release after 6months of development to figure that the product is "crap" but rather the fate of the product is determined every fortnight.
